Our Group's 2010 Winter Olympic Experience

Nearly 200 communities across Canada had the opportunity to gather and participate in the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay community celebrations...and we were in British Columbia during the excitement. Our home base for the trip was in northern Port Moody BC near Belcarra. The itinerary included school visits to read with children, meetings with Rotary Clubs and Rotaract clubs, several Junior Hockey games and a roadtrip packed of Olympic torch community celebrations.

British Columbia Torch Relay Route was actually named the Northern Lights tour...pretty cool connection.

Our team left Minneapolis Tuesday February 2, 2010 after the Northern Lights Junior A Hockey team's send-off game January 31.

Athlete Village Rotaract Club

As part of the Rotary family, our local Rotaract club will meet together 6:30 PM at the Bloomington Ice Garden on the third Monday of each month and will be in the community on the second Monday of each month.

We break for the summer and encourage interested members to join us again in the fall. Our kickoff meeting of the year will be August 29, 2012 but we will meet periodically through the summer for social event. You are strongly encouraged to visit Rotary, Rotaract and Interact Clubs this summer while we aren't meeting regularly.

Our club members live all over the Twin Cities metro area of Minneapolis and Saint Paul in Minnesota USA and represent a variety of professions, universities and sports. We are sponsored by the Bloomington Daymakers Rotary Club (District 5950).

Purpose of this Rotaract Club:

-Enhance our knowledge and skills to assist us in personal development

-Create opportunities for us to address the physical and social needs of our community

-Promote better relationships between all people worldwide through the framework of friendship and service

Additionally, many of our members are united through their passion to make a difference by using their interest/careers in sports, health and wellness as a platform for service and for positive change.

End Polio Now!

Polio eradication has been Rotary’s top priority for more than two decades. The international humanitarian service organization is a spearheading partner in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, along with the World Health Organization, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and UNICEF.

Great progress has been made, and the incidence of polio infection has plunged from about 350,000 cases in 1988 to fewer than 2,000 in 2008. More than two billion children have been immunized in 122 countries, preventing five million cases of paralysis and 250,000 pediatric deaths. Today, polio remains endemic to only four countries: India, Pakistan, Nigeria, and Afghanistan. Click here for polio documentary
